Currently I am exploring making metaphorical meaning of the transience of a human life, through the sculptural use of everyday objects. The use of wooden boxes and glass jars in my installation attempts to recall the tradition of Wunderkammer. This I’ve tried to set in a confrontation with electronic technology to suggest ideas of information sharing transcending time. I use outdated media such as tape cassettes and VHS alongside the more current media of DVD laser discs to evoke the idea of obsolescence. The Haruspex divination spectacles are intended as a comment on the impossibility of predicting the future. I’ve attempted to unify these ideas in the box piece. Using a clock mechanism combined with a reel of tape, I set up an open-ended durational experiment. Over time the clock wound the tape from its reel, and the tape responded in a way I could not foresee. The first hour of this experiment I documented in 1,200 images, which form the stop-motion video. The second video is a live-action recording of the same experiment five hours later. Ideas of past and future exist only in the present, so I invite you to enter the space, take a seat and wear the headphones.
